Aimtec AC LED Driver Installation & Wiring Standards

Engineering guidelines for mechanical mounting, AC mains connection, DC output polarities, and 0-10V / Triac dimming integration for constant current LED modules.

Overview & Safety Compliance

Aimtec AC-DC LED drivers deliver high-efficiency constant current regulation engineered for commercial, industrial, and architectural LED lighting applications. Prior to mechanical integration and electrical commissioning, engineering teams and technicians must thoroughly review the model-specific product datasheet to verify voltage, current ratings, thermal limits, and isolation parameters.

Engineering Safety Notice: Always disconnect main AC power sources before attempting installation, servicing, or wiring modifications. Verify electrical service compatibility with the driver's labeled input voltage and grid frequency limits.

1. Mechanical & Physical Installation Standards

Proper physical mounting prevents mechanical stress and ensures optimal thermal dissipation across the LED driver housing:

  • Handling: Transport and position the driver by handling its solid aluminum or polycarbonate casing only. Never pull, stress, or suspend the driver by its input/output cable leads.
  • Surface Mounting: Securely fasten the driver module onto a flat, thermally conductive metallic surface within the luminaire fixture using appropriate M3/M4 mounting hardware.
  • Environmental Protection (IP Ratings): For IP67 or IP68 ingress-protected series, ensure all external wire splices and junction boxes are housed inside weatherproof enclosures or sealed using waterproof IP-rated strain-relief connectors.

2. Electrical Line Input Connection (AC Mains)

Accurate AC input wiring ensures operational safety, surge compliance, and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC):

  • Do not alter or trim factory-installed lead lengths excessively to preserve insulation integrity.
  • Maintain clear separation between AC input cables, DC output lines, and low-voltage control/dimming circuits to prevent electromagnetic interference.
  • Ensure the AC neutral line is properly grounded at the main distribution panel. External transient voltage surge suppressors (SPD) should be integrated upstream to protect against line surges.
Line Function Terminal Marking International Wire Color Standard
Line Phase (AC Live) L Black or Brown
Neutral N White or Blue
Earth Ground GND / PE Green or Green / Yellow Stripe

3. DC Output Connection to LED Modules

Aimtec LED drivers are engineered with precise constant current control outputs. Connect the designated driver output terminal (labeled OUTPUT) directly to the LED array input leads:

Output Polarity Terminal Designation Standard Lead Color
Positive Output + (VOUT+) Red
Negative Output - (VOUT-) Black

Caution: Reversing DC output polarity may permanently damage connected LED arrays or trigger internal short-circuit protection features.

4. Dimming Control Configurations

Option A: Phase-Cut (Triac / ELV) Dimming

For drivers supporting AC phase-cut dimming, install the inline AC dimmer switch on the Live Line (Phase L) side before the AC input terminal marked "L" (Black or Brown cable).

Option B: Low-Voltage Analog & PWM Dimming (0-10V / 3-in-1)

When deploying 0-10V, 1-10V, or 10V PWM dimming protocols, adhere strictly to control loop electrical boundaries:

  • Limit control voltage inputs to a absolute maximum peak of 10 VDC.
  • Route low-voltage signal cables separately from high-voltage AC lines to prevent noise coupling.
  • Refer to the dimming terminal connection protocol below:
Dimming Signal Terminal Designation Lead Color Coding
Dimming Positive DIM+ / Adj1 Blue, Red, or Purple
Dimming Negative DIM- / Adj2 White, Black, or Grey

Note: If dimming functionality is unused, individually insulate the exposed ends of both dimming leads with heat-shrink tubing to prevent accidental ground loops.

Option C: Manual Current Trimming (Io ADJ)

On select model series equipped with manual output current trimming, adjust the internal potentiometer located under the sealed rubber cap labeled "Io ADJ". After setting the desired operating current, securely press-fit the protective rubber plug back into place to maintain IP moisture protection.

5. Operating Parameters & Maintenance Guidelines

  • Thermal Management: Do not operate LED driver modules in ambient temperatures exceeding maximum case temperature (Tc) limits stated in the technical datasheet. Maintain proper airflow around the luminaire heatsink.
  • Surge Protection Inspection: Periodically audit system-level surge protection devices (SPDs) in outdoor or industrial installations subject to lightning and heavy inductive load switching.
  • Standards Compliance: Aimtec AMEPRxxC-zzz and AMERxxC-zzz series fully comply with 0-10V analog dimming standards per IEC 60629 Annex E.
  • Service & Warranty: Aimtec power supplies contain no user-serviceable internal components. For technical evaluation, custom OEM pin-out inquiries, or factory failure analysis, contact authorized Aimtec technical support representatives.
