Engineering Experience

Specified by Engineers, Verified in the Field

Aimtec was founded in 2002 and has grown into a global designer and manufacturer of modular AC-DC and DC-DC switching power supplies, headquartered in Montreal with teams in Europe and Asia. Every platform is validated in our own labs for isolation, EMC pre-compliance, thermal derating and burn-in before it reaches a production line.

Our application engineers work directly with OEM design teams on input surge behaviour, hold-up time, creepage and clearance, and certification strategy — the details that decide whether a power stage survives audit and field life.

Buyer & Engineer Questions

Power Supply Selection FAQ

What is the difference between an AC-DC converter module and a DIN rail power supply?

An AC-DC converter module is an encapsulated, board-mount component soldered directly to the PCB, ideal when space and BOM count matter. A DIN rail AC-DC power supply is fully enclosed, clips onto a 35 mm rail and provides screw or push-in terminals — the practical choice for control cabinets, retrofits and field wiring.

Which isolation voltage should I specify for my design?

1.5 kVDC suits signal isolation and low-voltage control loops. Industrial bus systems and motor drives generally require 3 kVDC. Railway and high-transient environments call for 4 kVDC or higher, while medical devices require reinforced 2xMOPP insulation with tightly limited leakage current per IEC 60601-1.

Can Aimtec modify a standard product for my application?

Yes. Our engineering teams create modified standard products — adjusting output voltage, pin-out, footprint, conformal coating, connector type and certification scope — so OEMs keep a proven topology while meeting their exact mechanical and regulatory needs.

How do I confirm derating and thermal performance before prototyping?

Each datasheet in our documentation library includes derating curves versus ambient temperature and airflow, efficiency plots and recommended layout notes. Where a design is borderline, our application engineers review your enclosure and copper area and advise on power headroom.

Where can I buy Aimtec power supplies?
